Nascar
What a great way to round out the summer.Sitting in lawn chairs on the grass with the family, cooler of food and drink, and 700 horse power cars flying by at jet like volumes. Friendly atmosphere and decent weather . Awesome!!No sooner had the kids finished asking if any jets will fly over , we get to see two F18's put a show on for us.$40 a ticket ...money well spent . It looked like everyone was having the same amount of fun in the expensive stands...although there was no way they were as comfortable as we were ..sprawled out barefoot in beach chairs.Cant wait for next year but what would a blog be without a complaint.
No complaints at all about the race... no sir.
I log onto the web site the day of the race to get tickets and all I get is an error message.I try a few times and then figure I will try clicking "French" and see what happens. Sure as shit..I get on.Well I'm pissed and turn the damn thing off ! Out of principal I am not buying off this discriminating site. In retrospect it could be the English part of the web site was too busy , but then it does not make for a funny story. So we drive in from the West Island to Namur metro Ok great... the kids are excited to even take the metro and did not complain about each having to carry a beach chair .We get down into the bowels of our fine transit system and there is an announcement "mfffmrrumffruummmmrrrumm !!! What?? Then I listen a little more carefully and this time I can only make out some words in French, then again.... same thing .So....Since this is coming over the PA it must be important right? Well us Anglos have no idea what the hell was being said . This is real good. Now I know nobody ever pays attention to these things but I guess you have to be privileged to understand the announcements in the Metro. Way to go Montreal !!
All forgotten once we get out of the metro and hear that wonderful sound of powerful cars racing around the track. That is.... until I go buy a beer $5.75 . I give her $10.00She gives me back $0.25 two loonies and a toonie.I give her the $0.25 and feel bad and give her another $0.25 . She just stares back at me . not a thank you..not a word! She is just staring . That little B.... she wanted me to give her one of the loonies and since I didn't give it to her she just stares back at me. I swear I wanted to throw it in her face!!
Well not going to ruin this day, this is my sport and I wait all year for this .I bought more beer but made sure to get served by the nice girl with the smile and a "Merci Beau coup"...Now that's better !!

Ottawa Blues Festival / Molson Canadian
Why is it that as soon as you cross a any border out of Quebec musical tastes change?
I have seen my favourite bands come close to Montreal but stop just short . East , West , South .
Music is the same everywhere...except in Quebec.
Once again I had to leave "La Belle Province" to be amongst the +10,000 people at the Ottawa Blues Festival to experience the familiar sounds of Lynyrd Skynyrd
We took the kids as well.
The first thing they noticed upon arrival was the giant blow up Molson Canadian beer can.
I had to explain to them that we cant get this beer easily in Quebec because it says Canadian and has a Maple leaf on it.
Of course the response back was "Why? "
When you start explaining "why" it sounds so f...... ridiculous!!
On the same night just a few hundred yards away , Ludacris was playing.
Imagine this . A Ludracis crowd bumping into the hillbilly crowd of Skynyrd...and no incidents !!
Poor planning also had the Drive By Truckers taking a stage just 15 minutes before Skynyrd took their stage. Halfway through the Truckers' set half the people left to come watch Skynyrd
Midway through the Skynyrd set they dedicated one of their songs (Simple Man) to all the "Canadian troops and their families". A huge roar came over the crowd for this classy gesture.
Now imagine what might have happened here ?
At this point I realized just how sad we are to even accept this way of the land .
National Anthems get booed here.
Lettering on signs have to be bigger in French.
The language police pops up from time to time to catch you,!!
We cant get Molson Canadian here. (Molson... a family from Montreal ???)
I live in a town where the Mayor changes the name of Canada day because he did not want to offend the good people that did not get a St Jean Baptiste day in Dollard.
People don't always have the choice as to what language their children are taught in schools.
You cant get government forms in English .
There is actually a task force that will drive around the city on St Jean Baptiste day and warn you if they see a car in the parking lot of certain businesses. I know this first hand
Don't get me wrong I love the French . I have always said they are the most passionate people I know . Its the politicians and the separatist's I cant stand...you know the type .The ones that wear the American flag on their shirts before a Canadian Flag
I am a proud Canadian and come to think of it, I would rather my musical heroes don't come to Quebec. Sad to say but until this shit stops I would travel across a border.

Koivu / Jazz Fest in The Rain
So I am trying to keep an open mind about all the new players on the Habs. I am also trying to figure out what will be done with all the T shirts in my household with ex Habs players on them?
I cant help but wonder what this team would be like if Koivu was still here?
Its funny that we blasted Kovalev for what would appear to be a lack of effort but still wanted to keep him . What about Koivu? This was the one and only guy who went full out on almost every shift . This is the type of guy we want!! ...but somehow he leaves without any objections??
Something is wrong here? How good would it have been to see , of all players , number 11 hoist a cup over his head ?
Is there something we don't know?....has to be , otherwise this doesn't make sense?
I hope everyone was able to soak up the best Jazz Festival in the world?
So its the last night that I am able to head down there and I want to go see JJ Grey and the Mofro. My better half wants to see this young 15 year old?? What?? Oh Cmon!!!??
We get down just before 9:00 to the site and the lightning is putting on a show. My better half says "lets leave and come back for the 11:00 show". No . I say "let see what happens" ? We make our way quickly past this 15 year old on the way to The Mofro. "She sound pretty good"
The rain is just starting to trickle down. I could see my lady is not liking the entire scene so I decided to head back about 100 yards to the 15 year old .
To my surprise it sounds great and then.......Down pour...Big Time !! The tree we seek refuge under gives in to nature and just sends water down on all of us under it . Oh crap back to the car.
Note: Heineken tastes a lot better with rain water in it !
We are Soaked. I mean SOAKED . Now I get the look!! . Now she is cold, wet , very wet, and pisssed!
"Lets go home".... I am so wet I have to take my shirt off for the drive all the way back to the West Island.
I tell her "get changed quickly and well go back ". She looks at me like I'm nuts but we head back anyway. Its pouring the whole ride into town
What a call on my part. It stopped raining by the time the 11:00 show starts and Nikki Yanofsky was one of those surprises I always hope to catch.
I had never heard of her before but sure was happy I made the effort to head back and catch this phenom.
I made peace with my Lady at the same time

Buddy Guy Great / Beer Very Bad
Anyone that saw Buddy Guy Thursday night would have to agree he was awesome. What a treat to watch a true showman in this business.
Did anyone happen to notice how bad the beer tasted that night?
Now I watched her pour the beer so I know it was right from the bottle. It must have been a stash of beer that was found when they tore down the beloved Spectrum. Who knows how old it was? (Mr's Molson...um ...you might want to make sure that nobody is being served any really old and stale beer anymore !)
Fortunately The Metropolis was packed so tight I didn't want to give up my spot for more beer!
Even Buddy Guy did not attempt his usual trek through the crowd as I'm sure he was thinking he would never make it back to the stage?
On his previous visit as a back up to George Thorogood(It should have been the other way around), Buddy Guy made his way over to the bar and lucky me was treated to a round of shots. All the while playing his guitar for the crowd.

Habs/ Canada Day
Maybe I am just to pissed off to think straight!!
My city of Dollard changes the name of Canada Day to Celebration Day . We are told this is right from the Mayors office . Ed Janiszewski is scum . Anyone in his office that did not protest to this decision deserves to be removed and deported out to another Country
Anyways regarding the Habs
For the last few years we have been hearing the same thing
"What this team needs is Size"
The experts say we need "size"
"We need size up the middle"
Hey Sundin is a big Power Forward lets try to get him!! Ok that did not work out. Habs trade a draft choice to be able to talk with him and Sundin claims the Habs never approched him??
Ok Lets go after Lecavillier ..... That falls apart.
So what do we do ? Get the SMALLEST players in the NHL?
Mr GM
Credibility / Ability/ Trust = Out The F...... Window !
Maybe its me ??
